My name is Shelton Lewis, and I am the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management in the College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin. I am sending this email as a response to conversations I have had with a number of people around the state about admissions at UT and within the College of Fine Arts.
The University of Texas at Austin is a hard place to gain admission to because of the top seven percent rule. However, this rule does not apply to the College of Fine Arts. The reason being, Fine Arts students applying to our college have to submit additional things for admission. Examples of those additional things are: pre-screen videos, submit a portfolio, audition...
In the College of Fine Arts, we have a holistic review process. We understand that grades and test scores do not always tell the story. As a lover of the arts, I wanted to provide clarity on this. I want all students that want to pursue the arts in college to know that we are an option.
Over the summer, we will provide on-line information session about our admissions requirements. Please share this information with your staff and parents. If you would like to have us go to schools, provide a workshop, or master class, please let me.
